Resourcefulness In Modern Society

Resourcefulness In Modern Society

Resourcefulness in modern society is something that I have been wondering at. Resources are all extremely useful, but the lack of resourcefulness can be detrimental to even those with an unending supply of resources.

Anyone with the capability to be honest with themselves and who has taken the time to reflect upon their life, must acknowledge that as they look back, certain scenarios in their life would have been helped by an increase in resourcefulness on their part.

Oftentimes situations become overwhelming because we as a race tend to forget to look at the smallest details. Take the study of biomimicry as an example. As a species, we have failed throughout history to turn to that which has been right in front of us, the science of nature, in our technological developments.

The corporate world unveiled in detail to those who have been involved in any type of analytical task to increase productivity and efficiency in business operations makes this evident as well.

Rather than using the information we already have and then building upon that, we seem to try and come up with new ideas that ignore that which we have already learned and forget about using what works and making it work better.

It is definitely true that our world has made huge leaps and bounds in technology over the past 20 plus years, however, some of what we are currently developing and designing was already designed and developed whether it be in nature or in previous cultural technologies hundreds, if not thousands of years ago.

Information sharing seems to be one key problem. Greed and fear of losing one’s positioning are often at the root of the information sharing problem.

Sometimes it seems that pure tradition and blindness have caused some of mankind’s regressive behaviors and inabilities to move forward and function as efficiently as possible.

Initially, though, I began to write about resourcefulness and I must bring this blog back to that point….

Why do we beg others for help with information that we already have at our fingertips? We often do not want to take the time to find what we need and we end up taking twice as long and being half as effective because of our initial laziness.

I believe that resourcefulness is opening one’s eyes to all that is actually in front of them to the best of their ability. Then utilizing that information. At that point asking for help to tie a few loose ends up and then re-examining all that we have come to be aware of and processing the thoughts that stem from there can create great leaps and bounds in understanding and skill levels.

Sometimes we simply need to be willing to absorb information that we do not initially comprehend. The faith should be instilled from the basic understanding of elementary training, that once we have taken information in, whether we “get it” or not, that as we take in more and more information over the course of time, dots will begin to connect and our capabilities will increase dramatically.

It is particularly thrilling in those moments when a dot finally hits another and a whole new door and world of opportunity is opened up. Life is a snowball event if we participate and make some sort of attempt at resourcefulness. Perhaps many in the world have not been encouraged in the direction of resourceful thinking due to fear from short-sighted trainers and societies.

Rather than be afraid of one’s own elite status being terminated by the increased understanding and education of others, we should be more interested in the enablement that occurs from being surrounded by intelligent thinkers and increasingly capable hands and minds.

When we hold the fear of losing an elite status what we are really doing is selling ourselves short and lacking the recognition that our own capabilities to grow beyond where we currently are indeed are tremendous. We must lose the fear that we will not enjoy being anywhere other than where we currently are. Also, we must start trusting humanity and the possibility of good’s existence within it.

One who is not trusted is more likely to be less worthy of trust. Good begets good. Trust begets trust. Compassion begets compassion. Resourcefulness coupled with open communication begets more resourcefulness which enables ALL involved.

We must stop believing that potential is finite and begin recognizing that potential is multi-faceted and unending. In this process we can increase our own levels of resourcefulness, the levels of resourcefulness in modern society and decrease the paralyzing fears which rule such a large percentage of our world and our own minds.
